SOME 500 CINEMAS FACE CLOSURE RISK

-

The Turkish cinema sector has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, after losing 11 million viewers last year. “We expect a decrease in the number of cinema salons for the first time in 30 years,” said Fevzi Genc, General Secretary of Theater Hall Investors Association (SİSAY). Nearly 2,400 cinema salons will reopen on July 1, after closing on March 16 due to the coronavirus pandemic. As movies are released on Fridays, the reopening will be on July 3. However, sector representatives believe it’s still too early as preparations will take at least three months.
