Natural gas share at lowest level
INVESTMENT and consultancy company APLUS Energy partner, Volkan Yigit, said that a significant decrease was observed in production from thermal sources due to the decrease in consumption in April and May. The share of natural gas power plants in electricity generation has dropped to its lowest level in this period, Yigit noted. “We observed that the share of renewable energy production in total production reached record levels due to low demand and thermal electricity production.”
Burak Kuyan, President of the Energy Trade Association said consumption directly affects electricity trade. “We encountered a negative shock in trade volume due to the drop in demand from the beginning of the pandemic until mid-May. We have started to see an upward trend in trade volumes once the normalization calendar was announced by authorities,” he added.
