Rock müzik nedir, sen rock müzik mi yapıyorsun?
Bana göre isyan, başkaldırı, dik duruş, yaptıklarının ardında durma, kısaca ve tabiri caizse “benim alnım ak, başım dik” tarzı bir protest müziktir rock müzik. Protest olması ile rap müziğe, isyankâr olması ile arabeske benzerken, müziği ve altyapısı ile de tüm müzik türlerinden tamamen ayrılır. Hiçbir müzik tarzında olmayan en önemli özelliği ise her müzik türünü cover (yeniden yorumlama) edebilmesidir. Müzik olarak baktığımızda sahnede yaptığım şey rock müzik.
Rock müzik erkek egemen bir müzik mi?
Size “Hayır, benim her konserimde, en önlerde yüzlerce güzel kız oluyor, kadın hayranlarımdan kurtulabilmek için toma ile tazyikli su sıkmak zorunda kalıyoruz” demeyi çok ama çok isterdim. Müziği ve sözleri nedeni ile erkek egemen bir müziktir rock.
Ben sözlerimde kadınları eleştiriyorum aslında, erkeklere destek oluyorum ve onları teselli ediyorum. Erkelerin nasıl bir acı yaşadığını ve ruh hallerinde ne gibi hesaplaşmalara katlanmak zorunda kaldıklarını kadınlara anlatmaya çalışıyorum. Bu durumda beni ancak erkekleri anlamak isteyen kadınlar dinler.
Dinleyici kitleni nasıl tanımlıyorsun?
Genel olarak otuz yaş üzeri kadın ve erkeklerden oluşan bir kitlem var ama beni en çok mutlu eden, sadık bir kitlemin olması. “Geçmişte Görkem Erkan dinliyordum ama artık bıraktım” diyen birine zor rastlarsınız.
What is rock music? Do you make rock music?
Personally speaking, rock is a rebellion, insurrection, despite difficulties standing upright and standing behind what you do. So to say, it is giving that message to everyone: I hold my head high! It is protest music. Rock contains some similarities with rap because of its protest disposition. In addition to that, it comes close to arabesque owing to its rebellious structure. What makes rock fully unique is its music and basis. The ability to cover every music genre is rock’s most important element that is enjoyed only by rock. Within the context of music, what I do on the stage is rock music.
Is rock music a male-dominant genre?
I would like to say to you “No, in my concerts at the forefront row there are hundreds of women. I move heaven and earth in order to evade my female fans. For that purpose I need the police’s intervention as well” but no... Because of its music and lyrics, rock is a male-dominant genre.
My lyrics criticise women. I stand by men and give solace to them. I try to explain to women men’s pain in their hearts and the forms of entanglements they have to crystallise. Under these circumstances only those women who are in favour of understanding men’s feelings would listen to my songs.
How could you describe your audience?
My audience is mostly men and women over 30 years of age. The best part is I have a cruelly loyal audience. Finding someone who stopped listening to my songs is a rare occasion.
