Altınsoy Mermer will increase its color range to 15 with two new quarries to be opened this year. Ottoman bordo and gray marble will be extracted from the Harmancik and Gönen quarries that will start operating in the second half of the year. Nurullah Altınsoy, the President of the Executive Board of Altınsoy Mermer, stated that they would enter to the Middle east and American markets with Ottoman bordo and to America, China, Taiwan, Singapore and Australia markets with gray marble. Stating that they exported 40 percent of the production in 2017, Altınsoy mentioned that they had aimed to increase this ratio to 50 percent in two years.

Stating that they get the production advantage by establishing the factories in the quarries, Nurullah Altınsoy expressed that they would add Harmancık and Gönen quarries to the already active Karacabey, Mustafakemalpaşa, Dursunbey, Harmancık, Orhaneli, Keles, Erenler and Güngören quarries in June. Stating that they export the marble in blocks and processes Altınsoy said: “We send to India, China, Lebanon and Italy in blocks and to Romania, Russia, Azerbaijan, Israel, Egypt, Singapore, America and the Netherlands processed marble”.

Expressing that they started the business in marble as family business in 1930s Altınsoy said that they were active from production of block marble to plate marbles, from manufactured to semi manufactured mantling works, to marble decora- tion and construction projects. Underlining that they export primarily to China, India, Poland, Austria, Panama, Venezuela, Israel, Egypt, Lebanon, Russia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Romania and Mauritania, Altınsoy said they had in their product range; emparador, Bursa fume, Bursa light beige, Adranos black, Uludağ white, cappuccino dark beige, Kleos travertine, Bursa bordo, fantastic gray. Altınsoy expressed that their annual processing capacity was 500 thousand cubic meters, and block capacity was 110 thousand tons.

“Marble as well is fashion bounded”

Pointing out the necessity to keep up with the changes in preferences of customers, Altınsoy said: “We extract Bursa beige from the first quarry we opened in 1965. We were not working with it for the last 10 years, and we have started to extract again this year. Marble as well is fashion bounded. Karacabey black we started to extract in 1960s was sold until 1996, but today it is not even mentioned. It will be of fashion again and we will extract again”. Stating that the it is not possible for the marble reserves to be consumed away contrary to what is thought, Altınsoy said: “Marmara Island, discovered by the Romans, has been active for 2 thousand 750 years now and can be active for more than thousands of years. Our reserve in Orhaneli would survive 30 generations more”. Reminding that Turkey uses 8 to 10 percent of the identified natural stone reserves, Altınsoy emphasized the need to open more quarries.
