Having two marble quarries in Amasya Akyazı and Tokat Zile, Alternatif Mermer aims to increase its export. Mehmet Top, President of the Executive Board of Alternatif Mermer, stating that they put on the domestic and foreign market the marble they process in their factories, said: “We export the block marbles we produce in Akyazı quarry as 90 percent to China, and 10 per cent to India. We exported 15 thousand tons of block marble in 2016 and 19 thousand tons in 2017. This year we aim to export 25 thousand tons”. Top stated that they extracted classical beige and regal in Akyazı quarry and Kervansaray beige marble in Kervansaray quarry.
Stating that they operate with sensitivity to society, environment, clients and quality, Mehmet Top underlined that they produced by using the sources efficiently through environment friendly materials and technologies. Mentioning that they put on the market the block marbles they produce in their quarries by processing them carefully in their factories with their well-equipped machines and experienced staff, Top said they observed a steady increase in demand of these rare marbles, which are only produced by two other companies globally apart from themselves.
Pointing out they employ 55 people in their quarries, Top mentioned that 95 people worked in their factory that has 12 thousand square meters covered area and located on a field of 50 thousand square meters. Top stated that they had three cut-rock, six STS, three splitting line, four narrow slims, one plate slim and kiln line in the factory located in Amasya OIS. Top also mentioned that they had completed the installation of a cutting workshop with four STS in Akyazı quarry, and that they produced sized marbles for domestic market in this workshop to support the main factory.
“RD and PD are our priorities”
Top, stating that RD and PD studies are among their priorities and they continue these studies continuously within a framework of plan and program, said: “Industrialists in Turkey should give enough importance to RD and use the resources therefor. We foresee to create a machine park that can have an efficient and effective production by observing mainly the development in the technology as marble is a natural and conventional product”.
Underlining the necessity of giving importance to the production with high added value by the companies in order to increase the development and sustainability of the sector Top emphasized that survival in an environment of global competition would be difficult with the conventional understanding of production.
