“Exports to China is going strong, our new target is the Indian market”

- MUĞLA

Muğlalılar Mermer mainly exports to China and the company’s goal now is to increase its exports to the Indian market following its first sales there in 2017. The company does not have any demand problems with its rare, light and dark grey marble products in the market. Barıs Uslu, sales manager of the company told that the company extracts marble in three different colours with the same permit on an area of 208 hectares and the company plans to increase production this year. Uslu commented that they could not keep up with the demand, “We will buy new machinery. This will fasten our production. We are planning to buy rock trucks and excavators.”

Barış Uslu told that the available re- serve is over 4 million cubic metres and the company had a good year in 2017. Uslu emphasized that they export marble blocks from their quarries to China, “We exported 700 tons of marble in 2017 and mostly to China. Our exports reached to 2 thousand cubic metres. Since we have been exporting to China for many years, the Chinese market is strong.” Uslu also told that they entered in the Indian market in 2017, “We sent a range of products to India in September. Now we expect demands from there. We anticipate to see the results in Izmir Marble trade show. Indians prefer dark grey marbles whereas Chinese are more interested in light grey ones. We have both types of marble in our quarry. Chinese, Indian and the local Turk-

ish markets are more than enough for us.”

“This year we will reach to one thousand tons in production”

Barış Uslı told that the company has two quarries in Kavaklıdere, Muğla but only the quarry with Ege gümüş marble is active for the moment, “Markets are struggling due to the wars in neighbour countries. Market conditions for natural stones normally become clearer after Izmir trade show. We focus mostly on India in the show”. Uslu told that they planned to increase production and buy new machinery replacing the old one. Uslu talked about their plans to buy rock trucks and excavators worth of TL 2 million and added, “We will reach to one thousand tons in production. We have made smaller investments such as in boring machines, cutters. We plan to buy the main machinery which will increase the capacity after the Izmir Marble Trade Show. “

The company was founded by Halil İbrahim Boz in 1976 and in the beginning the main activities of the company were copper and sheet copper production. Uslu continued to tell about the company’s history, “Sheet copper production continued with the small 30 square metre shop in Kestane Pazarı in 1984. The company changed its name to Muğlalılar Sac Mermer Maden after Halil İbrahim Boz, Nusret Boz and Necdet Boz became partners and opened the marble quarry in Döşemebaşı and Derebağ Kavaklıdere in Muğla in 1993.”
