Oljas Bektenov is the new Prime Minister of Kazakhstan
In Kazakhstan, 44-year-old Oljas Bektenov was appointed prime minister.
According to a statement from the Presidency of Kazakhstan, President KassymJomart Tokayev signed the decree on the appointment of Bektenov as prime minister. Thus, Bektenov became the new prime minister of the country.
Bektenov’s name, to which President Tokayev submitted his candidacy for prime ministership upon the proposal of the Amanat Party, which has the most seats in the Parliament in accordance with the constitution, was also approved by the Parliament, the lower house of the Parliament of Kazakhstan.
In his speech in the Parliament, Tokayev said that he also supported Bektenov, who was nominated by the Amanat Party.
Pointing to Bektenov’s experience in the public sector, Tokayev said, “Bektenov is educated and hardworking, as well as good organizational skills, so I think he has enough potential to achieve the set goals.”
Regarding the government headed by Alikhan Ismailov, who resigned yesterday, Tokayev said, “I believe that a new impetus should be given to the activities of the government and the public expects this. Therefore, I accepted the resignation of Alikhan Ismailov.”
Who is Bektenov?
Born in Almaty in 1980, Bektenov graduated from the Kazakh State Law Academy and became a chief expert in the Almaty Department of the Ministry of Justice.
The 44-year-old Bektenov, who also held various positions in the Prime Minister’s Office, the Presidential Administration and the Astana Governor’s Office, served as the head of Kazakhstan’s Anti-Corruption Agency.
Bektenov held the post of Head of the Presidential Administration until he was appointed prime minister.
