Kazakhstan opened its transport and logistics terminal with China
Kazakhstan has built a transport and logistics terminal in Xi’an, the capital of China’s Shensi region, in order to give a new impetus to the development of the TransCaspian International Transport Corridor.
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev inaugurated the shipping and logistics terminal being built in China’s Xi’an dry port via teleconference. The terminal will operate in the dry port of Xi’an, where 40 percent of freight trains transported between China and the European Union pass, and its annual capacity is targeted at 66,500 TEUs. In addition, the Innovation Center established by the Kazakhstan Railway National Company in partnership with China’s Huawei was opened in Astana.
In his speech here, Tokayev pointed out that the project in question was put into operation as part of China’s “Belt and Road” initiative and said, “Kazakhstan fully supports the (Belt and Road) initiative announced by Chinese President Xi Jinping in our country in 2013.”
Stating that the construction of the terminal was completed as soon as possible within the scope of the joint project agreement between the two countries, Tokayev said, “This project will give a new impetus to the development of the TransCaspian International Transport Corridor, as well as strengthen trade and economic cooperation in Eurasia.”
