Turkey’s Ambassador to Ashgabat, Ahmet Demirok, stated that Turkish contracting companies have made significant contributions to the transformation that took place after Turkmenistan gained its independence, and said, “Turkish companies have successfully completed approximately 1080 projects worth more than 50 billion dollars in Turkmenistan so far.”
Stating that the relations between Turkey and Turkmenistan are developing in all areas and that the momentum achieved in the relations is also reflected in the course of trade and economic cooperation, Demirok said, “Turkey continues to be one of the largest trade partners of Turkmenistan. Turkey’s current trade volume with Turkmenistan has increased 3 times in the last 4 years and reached $2.1 billion in 2022. Our potential for cooperation is much greater. With the current positive course in our trade relations, we think that this volume will increase even more in the near future and we will be able to easily reach our common goal of 5 billion dollars in trade volume.”
“In addition to trade, investment, transportation and energy are also prominent topics in our relations”
Demirok said that Turkish business people participated intensively in the fairs held in Turkmenistan and that Turkish products attracted great attention in this country, and said:
“In addition to trade, investment, transportation and energy are also prominent topics in our relations with Turkmenistan. Turkish contracting companies have made significant contributions to the transformation that took place after Turkmenistan gained its independence. Since gaining independence, Turkish companies have successfully completed approximately 1080 projects worth more than 50 billion dollars in Turkmenistan. These data are undoubtedly a reflection of Turkmenistan’s trust in Turkish companies.
Turkish companies have carried out many important infrastructure projects in Turkmenistan such as power plants, electricity transmission and distribution lines, highways, residences, trade centers, universities, schools, public buildings, hotels, factories, canals, museums, parks, hospitals and ports.
Demirok, stated that Turkmenistan is an important route for the delivery of Turkish products to Central Asian markets, and that Turkey is in an important position for Turkmenistan in European transportation and said, “For this reason, we continue to work on the bilateral and trilateral plan with the participation of Azerbaijan in order to make the ‘Middle Corridor’, which has increased in importance especially recently, more effective. In this sense, it is of great importance to develop multimodal transport, simplify and speed up operations.”
Emphasizing the importance of energy security and resource diversification, Demirok said: “Turkey is taking important steps towards becoming a hub in natural gas. In fact, these efforts of Turkey contribute to the preservation of stability in our immediate geography in particular and in Europe in general. Turkey currently transports Caspian gas to Europe via the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP). Turkmenistan, together with the existing and under construction power cycle power plants, is in an important position not only in natural gas but also in electricity exports. We hope that work on the transportation of Turkmen natural gas and electricity to Western markets will begin soon.”
