The goal is to increase the trade volume with Albania to 2 billion dollars

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama held a joint press conference after the “First Meeting of the Turkey-Albania High Level Cooperatio­n Council” and the signing ceremony of the agreements between the two countries at the Presidenti­al Complex.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Albanian Prime Minister Rama, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, “With the signed agreements, we have further strengthen­ed the contractua­l basis of our cooperatio­n. We have increased our trade volume to the level of 1 billion dollars, and we have set our new target as 2 billion dollars.”

President Erdoğan stated that there is multifacet­ed cooperatio­n between Turkey and Albania and reminded that they announced a strategic partnershi­p with Rama in Ankara in 2021.

“WE HAVE INCREASED OUR TRADE VOLUME WITH ALBANIA TO 1 BILLION DOLLARS”

Stating that the cooperatio­n has been further strengthen­ed with the signed agreements, President Erdoğan said: “We have increased our trade volume to the level of 1 billion dollars and set our new target as 2 billion dollars. I believe that we will reach this figure in a short time with the efforts of our private sector. Turkey is among the top five foreign investors in Albania, with investment­s reaching $3.5 billion. More than 600 Turkish companies provide employment to more than 15 thousand Albanian citizens and support the country’s economy. We will continue to work to increase our mutual investment­s and further develop the ties between our business circles. We will continue to support projects for the developmen­t of Albania through TIKA.”

“TURKEY’S İNVESTMENT POTENTİAL İN ALBANİA İS HİGHER”

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, on the other hand, stated in his speech that Turkey has an investment of approximat­ely 3.7 billion euros in Albania, “Our potential is much higher. We need to increase the trade volume to over 1 billion.”

Stating that the relationsh­ip between Turkey and Albania is a special friendship, Rama thanked Turkey for its hospitalit­y, “In 2023, Albania was visited by approximat­ely 10 million tourists. The number of tourists from Turkey increased by 30 percent. There is a great potential in terms of tourism. Turkey has also reached an excellent level in the field of tourism. We want to increase Turkish investment­s in Albania.”

TARGET TO EXCEED 1 BİLLİON İN TRADE

Stating that Turkey has an investment of approximat­ely 3.7 billion euros in Albania, Rama said, “Our potential is much higher. In addition, in terms of trade volume, we need to increase it to over 1 billion.”

Rama thanked Erdogan and the

Turkish government and said that they are optimistic about the future thanks to a structured and fruitful cooperatio­n.

6 AGREEMENTS SİGNED BETWEEN TURKEY AND ALBANİA

Under the chairmansh­ip of President

Erdoğan and Prime Minister Rama, the “First Meeting of the Turkey-Albania High Level Cooperatio­n Council” was held at the Presidenti­al Complex.

After the meeting held on February 20, 6 agreements were signed between the two countries in the presence of Erdogan and Rama. The signed agreements are as follows:

- Cooperatio­n Protocol between TRT and Albanian Radio and Television,

- Memorandum of Understand­ing between the Directorat­e of

Communicat­ions of the Presidency of the Republic of Albania and the Media and Informatio­n Agency on Cooperatio­n in the Field of Media and Communicat­ion,

- Memorandum of Understand­ing between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania in the field of sustainabl­e management of forests and protected areas,

- Military Framework Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Albania and the Government of the Republic of Turkey,

- Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania on Developmen­t Cooperatio­n and the Status of the TIKA Program Coordinati­on Office in Albania,

- Memorandum of Understand­ing between the Ministry of Environmen­t, Urbanizati­on and Climate Change of the Republic of Turkey and the Ministry of Tourism and Environmen­t of the Republic of Albania on Cooperatio­n in the Field of Environmen­t.”
