How has the trend of hat wearing progressed?

The trend has changed a lot since I started in the millinery scene – the materials have changed. Milliners are using more materials and not sticking to old school tradition.

How would you describe your typical client?

We make hats for men and women. However, men just walk in to repair a hat they’ve had.

Classy and elegant.

All colours.

He soon gained popularity leading him to start his own millinery line, ITAM by King’s Signature. His designs even made it to Veuve Clicquot Millinery Showcase in Nigeria. King’s Signature style is full of bold florals, bright colours and bohemian glamour. ITAM showcases headwear and accessories.

How has the hat wearing trend progressed since you came into the scene?

A lot. We are now able to inform women on how headpieces should be worn. The love for wearing hats has grown especially in the Arab world.

How would you describe a typical hat wearing client?

A typical client for me is one who buys hats from me and knows full well they are getting the right fit and good quality, their headpiece will make heads turn on race day.

Do you make hats for men and women?

Yes. About 20 per cent of our business is from men.

How has the trend of wearing hats progressed since you came into the scene?

It has certainly become more popular and I think ladies going to the races seem to put a lot more effort into getting a hat that suits their face. Millinery is definitely being appreciated more as a creative art form.

How would you describe your typical client?

All my clients and hats are individual and unique. I predominantly design for racegoers, whether it be fashion on the field, horse owners or the fashion conscious just wanting to look great on race day. I have also created a number of pieces for mother of the bride and dignitaries attending formal functions. I don’t make much hats for men; maybe a Trilby now and then. However, I’ve made a few historical pieces like Bicorns and Tricorns.

What colours are in this season?

Bright colours especially fuchsia; either on its own or with red or orange. The softer tones are represented as well. You will see lots of bright colours in my Dubai World Cup collection.

Keeping the weather in mind, what are your style suggestions for racegoers this year?

Dress comfortably.
