Today I visited my cousin’s new home. She has bought a gorgeous mansion by the beach and has a lovely view of the ocean. The garden was beautifully done up and the location was perfect. Over a cup of tea, she started asking me about how I felt about the energy in her home and what were my views. Her main worry was that the entrance to her home was in the South West direction, which was not considered to be auspicious for her.

As I walked around the house, I realised it was well lit up, and beautifully decorated. All the windows overlooked the garden and the beach, while the air movement was also very good. So why was my cousin so worried about the direction of the main entrance?

Upon inspection, I realised that the main entrance was towards the back of the house, near the kitchen. There was no natural light or air circulation in that area. In fact, tall walls on all sides surrounded the main door. This did not allow any natural light in that area leaving it dark. But this did not concern me at all. Let me explain why.

In Flying Star school of Feng Shui, the entrance of the building or a home is always not important. The facing or the view of the property is more important. The place where you have maximum energy seeping into your home is considered to be the entrance or facing. And so going by that principle, the entrance of my cousin’s home was actually towards the beach and not where her main door was located. Her entire house was facing the beach and soaking in the sunshine and air from that area.

Next time you go to purchase or rent a property, do not get caught up by the location of the main entrance. Look at the property carefully to see where is the light coming from, where is the open space and most importantly what does your house overlook. Based on these, the entrance of your home can be determined.
