Adwoa Aboah is the model you need to know

-

IT’S HARD TO forget Adwoa Aboah’s face. If this is the first time you’ve heard of the supermodel dominating the industry, get acquainted because Adwoa isn’t going anywhere. With her stunning looks, charisma in front of the camera and her outspoken personality, it’s not a surprise that Adwoa is the Brit ‘it’ model to keep an eye on. She’s walked for CK, Fendy, Wang, DKNY, Kenzo, Rihanna x Puma, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Versace, Dior and she was on the cover of American Vogue and the first iconic British Vogue issue by new editor-in-chief Edward Enninful. What else did we find out about Adwoa? Read on to find out.

Model Start

The 24-year-old (yes, she’s only 24!) Adwoa is part Ghanaian-British and hails from a fashion background. Her mother, Camilla Lowther is the founder of CLM, the prestigious fashion management agency and her father Charles Aboah owns a location scouting company. True, Adwoa might have had a helping hand to get through the fashion door (but seriously, these days who hasn’t?) and it’s all about how one utilises the opportunities that are given to them. And Adwoa has not only done it by working continuously and working hard but by making a real difference!

Feminist Activist!

A quick scroll through her Instagram account and you’ll see that Adwoa is incredibly proud to be a woman – embracing and sharing every part of the female experience. In fact, Adwoa founded an online platform called Gurls Talk. The platform includes articles and videos to support young girls through depression and other issues concerning them. Amazingly, Gurls Talk teamed up with brands such as ASOS to raise awareness and in March 2017, they collaborated with Heads Together, a charity campaign set up by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

Real Experiences

Adwoa has been very open about her long battle with depression. “I had everything, but I felt nothing,” she says. Not only on her platform Gurls

Talk but on videos and interviews on Instagram and in other publications, Adwoa has shared her story and her issues with substance abuse to help friends and people who suffer from depression.

Model Friends

Adwoa’s best friend is fellow supermodel and actress Cara Delevingne! The models have been friends for nine years and are so close that they got matching half-heart tattoos that makes a full heart together – aww! We can’t say we are surprised since Cara has also been open about her issues with depression. Gigi Hadid is also a good friend of Adwoa – they worked together on a Versace campaign where Adwoa was photographed with Zayn by Gigi herself!

Model Winner

Last year the British Fashion Council awarded Adwoa the highly coveted Model of the Year award at the 2017 Fashion Awards, presented by Swarovski. Adwoa beat out fellow nominees Kaia Gerber, both the Hadids and Winnie Harlow, for the honour, which celebrates “the global impact of a model, male or female, who over the last 12 months has dominated the industry.” Wow!
