How to keep your feet happy under the sun

-

With summer just around the corner, it’s important to be aware of how to protect your feet from the harmful rays of the sun. Besides regular pedicures, it also is essential to apply sunscreen. You should also allow your nails to breathe once in a while sans nail paint, say experts. Shikhee Agrawal, head trainer at The Body Shop India; and Trishla and Rajeev Surana, Co-founders at Colour Me Mad, share tips on how to care for your feet during summer:

Apply sunscreen on your feet. It not only protects your feet, but also protect nails which are prone to damage from the rays of the sun.

If you have sunburnt feet, apply aloe vera based lotions or gels to get relief.

Wear breathable material like leather, cork and canvas or shoes made with mesh which allow air to circulate and keep your feet fresh.

Trim your nails. Go for proper, neat and short nails for maximum foot care. File them if that’s easier.

A pedicure helps get rid of dead and hard heel skin. It is important to pamper your feet and take care of the dead skin by regularly undertaking pedicure or clean up with a scrub, and apply foot cream for nice smelling feet.

Remember to soak your feet in lukewarm water mixed with baking soda for about 15 minutes which will make them clean and smell fresh taking any odour away.

Scrape off dead skin from the corner of the nail and apply almond oil for super nourishment.

Allow your nails to breathe from time to time. It can help stop discoloration if you are using dark nail polish.

Control sweaty feet with antibacterial foot washes. A peppermint foot spray can relieve foot sores or stress.

If you wear closed shoes regularly, ensure you change your socks daily. Also wash your feet few times a day. It keeps feet fresh.
