You know you’re a bit late to the Incredibles party when you haven’t seen the first film but still rather audaciously head out for the Incredibles 2 premiere at Vox Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates. “But how could you not have seen The Incredibles? It released in 2004,” demanded a bemused friend who, like me, is an animated movie buff. Okay, so I can’t really justify not having taken out time in the past 14 years for Pixar’s critically acclaimed superhero film which was not only a box office smash but also won two Academy awards and an Annie award for Best Animated Feature. And after watching Incredibles 2, which was the perfect mix of action, drama, laughs and cuteness (thanks to baby Jack-Jack and his weird superpowers), I knew I needed to catch up with its predecessor as soon as I could. The Incredibles was taken in on a lazy Friday which was a movie marathon of sorts (also featuring the brilliant Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar). The Incredibles - the first instalment of the adventures of a quirky family of superheroes is as thought-provoking as it is comical and as down-to-earth as it is thrilling. I settled on the the spunky Elastigirl as my favourite character. The Incredibles and its sequel are everything you could want from an animated film and more. So in case you haven’t hooked your wagon on to the Incredibles train yet, please do so now and I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed. You may just end up wishing you had superpowers for the day. Have a great week!
