Twitter’s latest move to sanitise its space by deleting the accounts of defunct users has come at a heavy price for certain celebs. While reports have it that in Bollywood alone, many big shots have lost hundreds of thousands of precious followers, the real cost of this move is yet to be ascertaine­d. In a world where your brand equity and social status is proportion­al to the number of ‘followers’ you have amassed on social media, the current action by Twitter must surely hurt. Big B, SRK and Salman, we hear, have gone into a huddle post this social media disaster.

On the other side of the world, Scarlett Johansson found out how powerful social media can be, when she was forced to quit an upcoming movie due to a fierce backlash on the said medium over her plans to portray a transgende­r role – one which critics online felt undermined Hollywood’s efforts to promote diversity and representa­tion in cinema.

Forbes’ recent assertion that Kylie Jenner is likely to become a billionair­e at the age of 22 has been met with shock and disbelief.
