Working With irrfan khan

-

It’s not often that an absentee actor drives the film’s promotional activities as much as the cast who are there in flesh. Irrfan, who is currently undergoing treatment for neuroendocrine cancer in London, is a huge presence in Karwaan.

Sharing screen space with such a powerhosue performer might have been daunting for many, but Dulquer considers it a learning experience.

“I have been really blessed to work with some of the best people out there from a very early stage of my career and there are common traits you see in them,” he explains.

“They are all very motivated, very inspired, very driven, no matter how many years they have been in the industry, or how many films they have done… and they are still trying to find the next great movie. So that is always something that inspires me.

“I’ve been a huge fan of Irrfan sir’s, so I was super excited to work with him,” Dulquer adds. “He is a genuine person, the sort who loves cinema; he loves to improvise. That is a little hard for me because my character (in Karwaan) is very serious, his character is super eccentric and funny and spontaneous. At times I had to keep a straight face till they called ‘cut ‘and then burst out laughing. You never know what he’s going to do next!”

Dulquer says Irrfan was such a huge presence during the shoot of the film that, “it almost feels like we (Dulquer and Mithila) are two kids promoting a different movie, a love story!”

Despite all the critical acclaim he has garnered over the years, Dulquer says, “having someone like Irrfan in the film helps because people will watch the film for him for sure, he has his own draw.

“Our core audience is mostly regional cinema down South… so for me to have Irrfan on board is a big plus. Even I will be noticed more because he is on board.”
