AS LAKME FASHION Week’s Winter Festive 2018 edition came to an end on Sunday night, it marked Kareena Kapoor Khan’s 8th year as the face of Lakme - the title sponsor of the Mumbaibased fashion week. But this time Kareena also launched her own collection - called ‘Kareena Kapoor Khan by Lakme Absolute’, and it is a beauty line that includes lipsticks called Pout Definers and blush-ons called Cheek Contours and the theme that was followed for the collection was ‘Shades of a Diva.’

The Kareena Kapoor Khan collection is already available on Nykaa.com, and is shipped internationally. While most Indian celebrities such as Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and now Shweta Bachchan have launched fashion lines, Kareena has decided to follow in the footsteps of Rihanna, Kim Kardashian West and Kylie Jenner and dabble in make-up. We caught up with her minutes before the line made its runway debut at LFW’S finale fashion show - where Monisha Jaising’s collection - also named ‘Shades of a Diva’ - took to the ramp.

Tell us why you decided to collaborate on make-up?

Because make-up is so part of an actor’s life. I have been working with Lakme for so long and we have discussed it for a while, and the idea really excited me.

Have you been inspired by the lines of Kim Kardashian West and Kylie Jenner?

In their spirit, they worked hard to ensure their product was true to them and that it would be appreciated. I have worked hard on the colours and the textures. There are also new make-up formats in this line such as cheek con- tours and pout definers.

And the one product you think is a must-have?

The Fearless Red lipstick - it’s bold and it’s so me. I do like wearing red lipstick. In fact when I am not working I will just wash my face and put on some kajal or some red lipstick. This is a line that will have mass appeal and I want it to be something that will work for every girl.

You were in Dubai recently, in fact you come to the city quite often. When is the next trip planned?

I love Dubai, I was there two weeks ago for a brand launch. I will come back whenever The Dubai Mall calls me back (laughs), as I just love the shopping there. I think Bloomingdales is my favourite.

So you did mention make-up is very much part of an actor’s life. What role did make-up play in your last film Veere Di Wedding?

I think it played as much of a role in building the feel of the character. The look was appreciated because we thought of every detail from the clothes to make-up to the hair. My character Kalindi is a bohemian and fun-loving girl which is why we kept the make-up clean. It was a very conscious and deliberate decision.

Why did you decide to call your line for Lakme ‘Shades of a Diva’?

Lakme wanted to it to be a collection centred on the word Diva and I thought why not ‘Shades of a Diva’, as there are so many sides to me as an actress. Every woman will find something that works for her from this line.

And what film do we see you in next?

It’s a film produced by Karan Johar, with Akshay Kumar, and it is called Good News - it is about marriage and you could say it is a bit of a comedy.

Are you excited to walk the ramp for Monisha Jaising’s collection?

Yes, I love her clothes, they are so bold and beautiful and this time there is a strong emphasis on metallics. I always look forward to the finale show, and to see what each designer’s inspiration is. And this one works so well with the beauty line, the look will be so glamorous.
