Supercar Blondie’s ski slope stunt with Mazda CX-9
YOU KNOW HER simply as @supercarblondie, but now one of the most popular petrolhead influencers around can add stunt woman to her CV, as the social media star - real name Alex Hirschi - has pulled off Dubai’s biggest ever ski stunt at Ski Dubai, Mall of the Emirates, with the support of Mazda and Continental Tires. What’s more you can catch the biggest onpiste set piece in the history of the UAE on Hirschi’s Youtube channel, which boasts over 300,000 subscribers.
Hirschi began the feat by towing Emirati professional skier, Hassan Fardan, to the top of Ski Dubai’s slopes in a new Mazda CX-9 Signature Line SUV fitted with Continental’s specially-made snow tyres. She then skillfully drove to the bottom, while Fardan raced down. During the run, Fardan hit a jump and gained enough air to clear the premium CX-9.
“We wanted to come up with an idea that would showcase just how innovative and cool Dubai is,” Hirschi said. “After seeing the ‘Jetman flying next to Emirates A380’ stunt, we thought it would be possible to come up with another epic idea using an iconic location in the city. This is the first time anyone has used a car as an alternative to the ski lift, pulling a pro-skier on a tow rope behind the car all the way up the piste. Of course, nothing would have been achieved without the new Mazda CX-9 Signature Line that performed very well in the sand and in the snow.”
Hassan Fardan, the 19-yearold Emirati skier, was well up for the challenge. “I love adventure sports and this idea seemed so cool to me that I didn’t hesitate for a second before saying yes,” said Hassan.
Galadari Automobiles, the sole distributor of Mazda in the UAE, were the first partners to come on board.
