Editor’s Note
If you are going through a bit of a ‘personal crisis’ currently, chaffing at the hands dealt to you by fate, wondering how to make the most of your life even as you are grappling with a zillion issues that are bogging you down, Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy is the movie to watch.
The story of the defiant underdog, whose angstridden existence could well be the current reality for many; who breaks down the barriers put forth by life and the larger society around him is exactly what many of us ‘self indulgent’ people need to watch.
Kudos to Ranveer Singh, whose larger-than-life outing as Simmba had entire theatres breaking into a jig, for wowing audiences once again as the angstridden Murad from Dharavi who raps his way to the limelight in Gully Boy.
Once out of the theatres of course there’s much to keep you busy this week in the city. From the Dubai Jazz Festival headlined by Alicia Keys to the mouthwatering deals at Dubai Food Festival and soulful renditions by singer KK, whose Pal is one of our all-time favourite nostalgia tracks, there’s enough music and food to keep us satiated. But what’s got us really excited for next weekend is an exhibition by Raw Mango, the brand that’s hugely credited with popularising saris among the millennials.
Of course if you thought Bollywood had grown mature with movies like Gully Boy wait till you see what they have in store for you next weekend. Total Dhamaal!
