The world is moving towards sustainability. With WETEX, Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, and the Sustainability District in The Expo 2020, UAE is blazing down the sustainable track. Along the same lines, sustainable fashion is something we’ve had on our minds lately. Mind you, it isn’t for the meek. It requires dedication, loyalty and patience. Much like being in a relationship, once you’ve decided to turn the sustainable leaf in your life it requires a lot of work and commitment.

What is it you ask? In simple terms, for you, i.e. the customers, this means thinking about what you buy, knowing which philosophies you are supporting through your purchases, and also asking yourself if you are really going to wear that new piece to the extent that it was worth being made.

For brands on the other hand, sustainable fashion means creating in a way which is most considerate of humanity and the environment. The goal is to have a system which works without leaving a negative footprint.

With Fashion Forward coming to town tomorrow, the fashionista in us, who hibernates for the most part of the year, reared its creative head and decided it was time. It was time to revive the style sense in us, albeit a small one.

And on our quest to channelling our inner style queens and not just making sure we have clothes on before we leave the house, we stumbled across the concept of sustainable fashion and all that it entails.

The world is moving on from fast fashion and so should we. Gone are the days when it was acceptable to walk down the street and see a complete stranger wear an off the rack that will probably disintegrate within a few washes. And it’s just salt to the wound when they wear it better.

We had some questions of our own though about the concept. So we spoke to some of Dubai’s extremely talented designers and also global ones who’re flying into town for the epic show to get their take on the matter. Fashion Forward Dubai The October 2019 Edition will run from October 30 to November 2 at the Dubai Design District. With fashion designers showcasing their latest collections and talk sessions by fashion leaders from the industry, this free-toattend public event is perfect for anyone who loves fashion.
