curator and director of Sandy Beach Hotel and Resort, Tarek Aboudib, for a chat ahead of the grand show.

“We’ve gone all out with this one. This year, the festival will tell the stories of the ancient Pharaohs, mighty Romans, Greek warriors and fearless Vikings,” said Aboudib.

What’s Snoopy Beats?

Aboudib has been a UAE- resident all his life. “My family moved here in the ’70s, and the Sandy Beach Hotel and Resort has been a family business since the ’80s,” said Aboudib. “I grew up around the island,” he added.

After completing college in Montreal, Aboudib returned to Fujairah to work in the family business. “When I got back home, I realised this location deserves to be seen. We can do so much more with the land available to us,” he said.

In 2016, Aboudib launched the resort’s first full- moon party. “This is how I also met my current partner Wael Hijazi. It was just a prototype, a pilot of sorts. The guests were a few people I had invited privately, and with performances from a couple of DJS, the event was a hit. We had about 60-70 people attend that show. The vibe was amazing, and the feedback was overwhelming,” he explained.

“Wael is a pioneer in the deep house industry in the UAE. He is a DJ and ran his event concept called – Deep Like. He works with a large community of like-minded people, and we figured it would be great to bring a concept like this to the UAE,” added Aboudib.

Since the first full moon party, the duo have worked together to curate a unique brand of events at the beachside resort, one exciting theme after the other. “We realised there is a demand for outdoor events set in a more natural landscape in the UAE. People wanted to attend something more than just a night out in a club,” he added.

With each event, the concept grew. On March 24, 2017, Wael decided to host the 100th edition of his Deep Like 100 at Snoopy Island. “Despite the weather being bad, people still came to the event. We loved working together, and we both complete each other. He books DJS and artists, and I take care of the festival curation and production,”
