Filmmaker Zenofar Fathima's Specter: Black Out to release this spring
The world's first escape room TV series, Specter: Black Out, directed by Zenofar Fathima and co-directed by Afraah Farhana, is set to debut on the global OTT platform Zee5 this spring. This groundbreaking paranormal thriller and mystery follows a group of individuals who are mysteriously invited to participate in a casting call audition promising a substantial reward. Held within the eerie confines of an escape room, the participants find themselves grappling with increasingly blurred lines between reality and illusion as they delve deeper into the challenges.
Fathima, known for her social activist filmmaking style and affinity for horror, sees Specter: Black Out as a fusion of her passions. Having directed and produced numerous shorts covering topics such as Covid-19 and cyber extortion, Fathima aims to weave a powerful narrative that entertains, spooks, and resonates with audiences. The series has garnered significant attention in the GCC region, being hailed as the "first-ever escape room series" to be produced.
“Of course, Specter: Black Out being one of the first ever escape room series is not to be taken lightly – it is a great accolade to have. I am very thrilled to have brought this vision to life and am even more excited for everyone to watch season 1, launching this spring,” Fathima said.
Notably, Specter: Black Out features collaborations with Blackout Realistic Horror Escape Games, known for their immersive experiences, and incorporates the evocative soundtrack One Life by Tim Dian. Fathima explains that the selection of One Life aligns with the series' themes, symbolising the participants' quest to seize opportunities and embrace their true selves.
While season 1 boasts an ensemble cast including Fathima herself and a diverse array of talents, season 2 is teased as "the beginning of the end," promising even more surprises and star-studded appearances. With its innovative approach and immersive storytelling, Specter: Black Out is poised to captivate audiences worldwide when it premieres on Zee5 Global.
