THIS MONTH’S HOT BEAUTY SPOT
Body care:
There's something extremely satisfying about a traditional hammam, especially when you see the dead skin flaking off after you're washed, steamed and scrubbed while you lay atop a hot slab of marble. Our therapist Souad at the womenonly Turkish bath (a Middle Eastern version of a Roman bath) first popped us into the sauna for 15 minutes, allowing us to limber up and open our pores before she gave us an intense rub down with therapeutic black soap. We were rinsed off and went straight into the steam room for further skin detoxifying, then flopped back onto the marble for a vigorous scrub with a loofah, where every inch of our body was given the once-over. Another rinse and then back on the warm marble for a relaxing oil massage: we left feeling like we had shed the weight of the world and 10 tonnes of dead skin cells – win, win.
