The first time I met celebrity chef Sil­vena Rowe she was be­hind a huge cake that she had baked me by way of in­tro­duc­tion. The cake didn’t last long but our friend­ship has en­dured. We don’t have much in com­mon. True, we are both tall blondes with more than our share of per­son­al­ity (and a pinch of feisti­ness), but while she can cook like a dream and has culi­nary tal­ents galore, I strug­gle to make toast.

While Sil­vena whipped up gor­geous desserts and made de­li­cious del­i­ca­cies on Bri­tish TV, I could only watch in awe, my mouth wa­ter­ing. She has cooked for roy­alty, pop stars and Hol­ly­wood’s finest, and I have been lucky enough to eat in her kitchen and Lon­don restau­rant. Now, I am thrilled that the Do­mes­tic Diva (I told you she was feisty!) has moved to Dubai, where she is open­ing a myr­iad restau­rants, and is Fri­day’s very own culi­nary colum­nist.
