Balance Signature Facial, Balance Wellness Club, Oasis Centre
While I once thought that facials were to enhance beauty, and so only for women, I recently learnt that a good facial also rejuvenates and restores energy.
Walking into the Balance Wellness Club, I instantly felt my everyday worries vanish. There was such a sense of calm and tranquillity at the spa – probably because it is well insulated, and cuts out all external sounds. All that welcomes you is soothing music and peace.
I was met by my therapist, Midhun Raj, and led to the treatment room. He invited me to soak my feet while he talked me through the details of my treatment.
The Balance Signature Facial awakens the higher energy in the body and restores the glow and vitality in the skin, he said. It works on the principle of the seven major chakras in the body, and stimulates the ‘throat’ and ‘third eye’ chakras.
A deeply rejuvenating therapy, it unblocks the energy field of the face and neck, and triggers the marma or vital points on the face, which offers a meditative state of bliss, while giving the skin a luminous glow.
Midhun used a synergistic blend of oils for healing, which are combined with ancient marma massage and light nurturing strokes. This removes blockages and stimulates the flow of energy along the pathways of the face and prepares them to receive the prana (energy) and light.
At the end of the treatment the face reaches a state of ‘vishuddha’, which means ‘extremely pure’. It all sounded fascinating, and I couldn’t wait to see the results.
The procedure started with my face being cleansed with a milk containing aloe vera, argan oil, rice bran and jojoba. A rosewater toner was then applied, before my skin was exfoliated using a natural blackcurrant seed and honey scrub. This stimulated the blood vessels, and released toxins and tensions that have collected in the face.
Next my face was massaged with the vishuddha face oil, consisting of tulsi (basil), sandalwood and rosehip seed, after which a vishuddha face mask consisting of mineral-rich clay and argan seed oil was applied and left to dry.
Once this was removed, the treatment ended with the application of a natural day cream – made with organic honey wax, fresh royal jelly and Damascene Rose Otto – to rejuvenate the skin cells.
