Friday

A Friday to savour!

-

Every week in the UAE it seems that another restaurant opens. From the trendy – and tasty – American-style burger joints like Shake Shack and Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher’s Ketchup, to the ultimate in Japanese fine dining, Toko, with it’s very own A-list celebrity clientele, there’s something for everyone’s culinary pleasure. For me it’s a food revelation. Back in my native England, eating out usually consists of fish and chips, pizza and Chinese. Here, I seem to have an endless supply of delicious Michelinstarred menus put before me, and dishes that look Instagram perfect, and well, good enough to eat.

But a recent picture I posted of a melt-in-themouth burattina cheese with a Parmesan crisp was met with disbelief in the UK. “Why has someone dropped a chip in your egg?” one friend demanded. They couldn’t understand that food is an art form and that big portions aren’t necessarily better. We explain why on page 30 and have lined up a stellar cast of international chefs to celebrate Dubai Food Carnival, starting today. Our very own Domestic Diva Silvena Rowe tells us why she’s gone green on page 22 and shares her delicious breakfast recipes on page 66. She’s joined by Jamie Oliver (page 74), and Eric Lanlard (page 39). Enjoy!
