Iwas in­trigued by the ex­pres­sion ‘os­trich syn­drome’ (Do you have os­trich syn­drome? Fe­bru­ary 20) – a psy­cho­log­i­cal term to de­scribe a per­son’s be­hav­iour of ig­nor­ing his/her prob­lems hop­ing they will go away – and that set me read­ing the en­tire fea­ture.

Imust ad­mit I was suf­fer­ing from that syn­drome for a brief pe­riod but I man­aged to get over it largely by read­ing some self-help books.

Look­ing back, I now feel ig­nor­ing a prob­lem and hop­ing it will go away is not a so­lu­tion. If any­thing, it can worsen and snow­ball over time,
