Run, jump and watch

Financial traders have to be fast and competitive, but who really is the best? On Wednesday, we’ll find out, when the employees of Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) will show us how speedy they are in the first of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay global series, which sets corporate teams of runners against each other in Sydney, New York, London, Shanghai, Singapore and Hong Kong. Expect to see 1,000 runners from Dubai businesses relay around the 1.6km route that loops in and around the Centre (last year’s winners, RPM, took 53 minutes and 31 seconds). It takes place at 6pm, which we think is the perfect time to grab a bite to eat and watch those bankers break a sweat.

Prefer to get hot under the collar yourself but want to keep your workouts financially savvy? Head to The Dubai Mall for a free fitness class tomorrow. From 7-7.40am there’s a Zumba class; 8am is Pilates and at 8.45 it’s the kids’ special Born to Move. We love that it’s on the bridge between The Dubai Mall and Souk Al Bahar, overlooking The Dubai Fountain.

More of an armchair athlete? The 51st Super Bowl is on from 3.30am on February 6. Watch the New England Patriots take on the Atlanta Falcons (and Lady Gaga’s sure-to-be-political halftime show) at venues around town including Original Wings and Rings (Dh150 per person including one main course and soft drink, call 04 359 6900). Perry & Blackwelder has Dh30 bottomless coffee from 3.30am; Dh95 gets you a breakfast burger. Call 04 432 3232. Claw’s Locker Room opens at 3am (and shows a rerun at 7pm for those who prefer to lie in) with a minimum spend of Dh150. Book on 04 432 2300. McGettigan’s JLT is also screening the game live; call 052 265 7972.
