FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Every cover story we do at Friday is exciting for the team, but this week’s one is something I am really happy to see. Mostly because we were able to answer the fun question, ‘Can we do a fashion shoot around the idea of Guns N’ Roses style?’ with a resounding ‘Yes, we can!’.

When we first discussed the idea, we thought it might be a stretch – would there even be any rock outfits in stores (we always shoot with things you can actually pick up in shops this weekend) that looks like the November Rain video? Uh, yeah. Totally.

Flannel shirts, distressed denim and big black boots are in style in a big way – or maybe, they never went away. In any case, I felt at once old – as I enjoyed wearing those clothes as a teen; happy – as I’d still like to wear them; and elated – as there’s that wonderful feeling when you pull something off. I don’t want to get all Nike commercial on you (although that is one cool ad) but I am sure we all love it when a dream (however big, small or Guns N’ Roses-themed) takes off. When a plan just comes together. (Something about that statement also makes me want to narrow my eyes and stroke a cat in a Bond villain-ish way.)

So keep at it. When they say no, let that be your motivation to prove them wrong. Do it somewhere else, better.
