The Tamil community’s best voices will compete for glory at Music Masti 2017 – a talent contest whose grand finale takes place in Dubai today at the Shaikh Rashid Auditorium, The Indian High School. The singers have been whittled down by a panel of celebrated Tamil singers including Bharadwaj, Srikanth Deva, Malathy Lakshman and Senthildass. The show starts at 6.30pm; tickets from Dh30, available at rythmevents.com.

So you can’t make it to Santorini for that big fat Greek holiday this year? Fret not – two new weekend events inspired by the glorious island of Santorini are set to take over Abu Dhabi: Al Dana Weekend and Reem Weekend take place on Al Dana Island today, and Reem Island’s new canal from April 20-22 (from 5-11pm). The waterfront festivals include shopping, food, entertainment and adventure, while a dedicated children’s play area on the beach will host kids’ yoga sessions and games. The events are free for all.

We hope you know you T-Rexes from your Triceratops, as they’re all headed to the Dubai Opera – well, kinda. On April 20 and 21 Jurassic Park, the original 1993 sci-fi flick that spawned a generation’s obsession with dinosaurs, will play on the big screen as 21st Century Symphony Orchestra performs the nail-biting score by John Williams. Like the film’s Dr Ian Malcolm, we hate being right all the time, but this one’s going to be a dino-mite experience. The show starts at 8pm on April 20; 3pm on April 21. Tickets from Dh150 at dubaiopera.com.
