I’ve never celebrated Akshaya Tritiya, but as a festival of new beginnings, it certainly catches my attention this year. So I would like to revive my long-lost creative writing practice and experience the sheer joy of writing and re-writing until I’m satisfied or bored, whichever comes first. As a responsible mother, there is a lot of sweet demanding “to dos” in which what I wish “to do” gets little space. Hence, I hope I am able to constantly do some writing and strike gold ushering Akshaya Tritiya this year and thereon. Vidhiya Prashanna

My ultimate dream is to own my own bookstore. The first step in that would be to start a book club and meet people who also love books. I hope I find the courage and patience to take that first step towards my dream. Harshita Nanda

I have been meaning to learn to ride a unicycle for years. I would have learnt to do so by now if I hadn’t kept forgetting to. I cannot imagine anything cooler than whizzing into work on a unicycle, nonchalantly clutching a croissant in one hand and my laptop in the other. The looks of envy on everybody’s faces, I am sure, would make up for any loss of life or limb incurred while mastering the art. The slight problem remains as to how I will manage it on Shaikh Zayed Road, but if any great artist had let trifling matters like the law restrict them from realising their potential we would still be stuck in the Dark Ages. Watching Hindus prepare for Akshaya Tritiya, the festival of new beginnings, is so wonderful. I’m told buying even one gram of gold on the day brings good luck and prosperity. We respect their ideas and sometimes, we too, end up buying the gold metal, just like our Hindu friends. When husbands raise their eyebrows, ladies quip ‘respect all religions’. Clara Francis

On this day of new beginnings, I want to start meditation, using an app I have already downloaded and opened an account on. But I have just never taken the next step of actually starting meditation. My goal is small... two minutes, then five minutes and so on. This is part of the bigger picture of taking better care of myself. Priya Malhotra
