EUROPE’S LARGEST FRESHWATER AQUARIUM TO OPEN IN LAUSANNE

-

Think Switzerland and you think snow-clapped alpine vistas where cattle chomp away on lush green meadows. It’s little-known but the European nation’s glittering freshwater lakes are a hotspot of aquatic life which will be showcased in all its glory when the AQUATIS Aquarium-Vivarium Lausanne – Europe’s largest freshwater aquarium opens on October 21. Situated in the city of Lausanne that’s perched on the shores of Lake Geneva, Aquatis sounds like it will inch its way up to the must-do-in-Switzerland list right next to gorging on Swiss chocolates and trekking through picturesque Interlaken trails. The project boasts some mindboggling numbers: you’ll walk through 50 different aquariums, vivariums and terrariums in a two million-litre water facility and discover 20 ecosystems of aquatic flora and fauna from over five continents through interactive technology while you’re at it. Travelling with kids? You can break up your itinerary and make an overnight trip of the Aquarium by staying at the adjoining Aquatis Hotel and Conference Center. The three-star hotel has 143 rooms, fitness facilities, and dining outlets. Visit lausanne-tourisme.ch.
