SCHOOL OF JEWELLERY COMES TO DUBAI

Who better to teach the UAE’s future jewellery designers than the house of Van Cleef & Arpels? L’Ecole Van Cleef & Arpels opens its Dubai location this week offering children and adults the opportunit­y to enrol in classes and workshops, as well as exhibition­s, cinema screenings and events, all open to the public. The month-long programme is designed to entertain and educate anyone interested in design, history, jewellery and contempora­ry culture. Here are my highlights:

Enrol in one of 14 adult classes including The History of Jewellery and The Universe of Gemstones. Courses require a minimum of Dh400 donation, which will go to Dubai Cares charity.

Five free creative workshops are also available for kids and teenagers. Each workshop is focused around jewellery design and the history of jewels.

Cinema and Jewellery Nights screent iconic films that star the most memorable jewellery, including Cleopatra starring Elizabeth Taylor and To Catch a

starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. Throughout the month there will be evening conversati­ons hosted by experts in jewellery. The talks will be open to 80 members of the public and will include subjects such as The Magic of Natural Pearls, Architectu­re and Jewellery and From Rocks to Jewels.

Exhibition­s taking place include Pearls & Jewels, Emirati Adornment: Tangible and Intangible and Through the Eyes of a Connoisseu­r.
