I HAVE PCOD. SHOULD I SKIP DAIRY?
QI am suffering from polycystic ovarian disorder. I have read that dairy could be harmful to those with this condition. Should I avoid dairy products?
I have mentioned earlier in these columns how dairy could be the cause of endometriosis and infertility issues among women. Dairy is also not good for women struggling with polycystic ovarian disorder. Here are five reasons women with PCOD should avoid dairy products.
A lot of cows are given dosages of hormones and
Aantibiotics that encourage them to produce more milk. These hormones and antibiotics find their way into the milk that you drink and thereby into your system where they can disrupt your hormone levels. Cows are also milked when they are pregnant. This milk is loaded with oestrogen and once it enters your body, your hormonal system goes haywire because the body detects oestrogen and stops producing the hormone. This is the first hormonal imbalance that begins the cycle of PCOD and other issues.
Dairy causes inflammation of the gut because it leaves behind an acidic residue that can hinder ovulation, obstruct fertility and cause irregular menstrual cycles.
Antibiotics in milk can have a negative impact on your own gut micro-flora, making it difficult for the good bacteria to survive and thrive. This is another reason women with PCOD also suffer from mood swings and depression.
Most cows are fed with genetically modified corn or soy. GMOs are endocrine disrupters and cause androgens (male hormones) to act up.
Dairy also depletes your calcium stores, causing earlyonset osteoporosis.
