There’s plenty of sports to watch and play this January. The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship swings into action at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club from January 18-21. You’ll get to see performances by the Trickshot Boys – a golf show by Geoff Swani and Kevin Carpenter – on the Driving Range on all three days. January 19 is a ladies day and if you’re dropping by on January 20, dress in red – it’s the Wear Red Day. General admission from Dh50; ticketmaster.ae.

If you’re in Dubai that weekend, trot over to the Dubai Show Jumping Championship at Emirates Equestrian Centre. The event will see the best showjumping horses and riders from the UAE overcome courses of hurdles and obstacles. From January 18-20; gates open at 8am. Free entry.

The annual Terry Fox Run takes to Abu Dhabi this year on January 19. The charity race, which was launched in 1981 by Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox to raise funds for cancer and has been continued in his memory, will kick off at Abu Dhabi Corniche opposite the Hilton. Entry is free and the race is open to all – you can walk, wheel, ride or run. Race starts at 9am.

Adrenaline junkies and adventurers, listen up: The Extreme Sports Expo is happening at the Dubai World Trade Centre from January 12-13. The expo will coincide with three other events – the Dubai International Bicycle Exhibition, Dubai Motorbike Festival and One Breath Dive Expo. Events like the Dubai Motorbike Stunt Battle and the International Underwater Target Shooting Championships will get your heart racing while dedicated pavilions and sports villages will cater to all tastes – the Land Action Sports Village covers skateboarding, paintball, slacklining, mountain climbing, off-road trucks and more and the Aerosports pavilions tick all the boxes when it comes paragliding, sports planes, drones, flying cars and other sky-high activities. 9am-10pm on both days; single day passes Dh30, weekend pass Dh40.
