DETOX THE HEALTHY WAY

-

We’re coming out of a long series of festive occasions where we’re just about making sense of reality and our new year’s resolutions. Getting back to the grind can sometimes prove a little overwhelming, especially when we realise that we’re unable to fit into our regular jeans, our cheeks seem disproportionately “swollen”, and our skin, hair and, worst of all, our digestion, isn’t exactly on its best behaviour. To help us get back on track, Dr Zain Ladha, doctor of naturopathic medicine at The Chiron Clinic in Dubai shares her top tips for a healthy detox.

Use occasions such as New Year, Lent, Ramadan, or even your birthday month, as opportunities to abstain from excesses – meats, or food and drinks laden with sugars and excessive caffeine. These can range from avoiding inflammatory foods, processed foods, beef, fizzy drinks or coffee.

Consume easily digestible foods such as fruits, vegetables and those that contain lots of fibre. This aids cleansing the body and digestion.

To identify if your body type requires a beginner’s detox diet such as the brown rice diet, or a more stringent diet form such as the juice or raw food diet, it’s best to consult a professional who understands your body from an emotional, mental and physical level.

Consider colon hydrotherapy to help detox the body a little more quickly. Consult a professional to understand how this works and if this is right for you.

Mentally align yourself with the process of detoxification. Know that this may need a bit of work from your side, but just as we clean the excess oil and grime from our cars for upkeep and healthy running of the engine, our bodies need the same attention and care too.
