IT’S A CAKE WALK

- Natalie Long, editor Reach me at nlong@gulfnews.com

After the dress, the cake (elderflower; I have to say that does sound lovely), the picture of the kiss, comes the honeymoon. Of course there are many weddings taking place this summer, all of them special in their own way, but one of the most-watched will be next month’s UK royal wedding, for the most part because it stars an American TV star, which, like that elderflower cake, is not something you see at many British royal weddings.

Also, the couple appear to be very much in love, which is always a bonus. I’m not going to say I am flag-wavingly excited about the big day, although I wish them the best; perhaps it’s because I never watched Suits. Nights under Australia’s starlit desert skies, or on a private Caribbean island do sound dreamy, and not inaccessible, either.

inspiration and learnings from her trek across America’s west coast (page 22) . If you haven’t read Wild, her memoirs of the trip, done two decades ago, this will make you pick it up today, if only to realise how much you value your toenails. The book is brutal, physically and emotionally, but so worth your time this weekend.
