GOOD FATS LEAD TO WEIGHT GAIN
QI have gained weight ever since I started including more good fats in my diet. What do I do?
AGood fats like ghee, butter, avocados, nuts and coconut can never be a bad thing for you. The problem is, when you eat a high fat diet, you will need to control your consumption of refined carbohydrates which means giving up refined junk like bread, pasta and biscuits. You can always follow the 80:20 rule but you will need to watch out for your carbohydrate intake.
Even the carbs coming from fruit juices, fruits, cereal bars, morning breakfast cereal and refined wraps must be dramatically reduced if you want to get all the health benefits of a high-fat diet.
The combination of a high-fat diet along with high-refined carbohydrates is a recipe for disaster.
Your lipid profile or cholesterol levels will shoot up, you will gain weight specially on your waist and your overall body fat percentage will increase too.
The best combination that works for most people is to keep it balanced between carbs, protein and good fats. So a balance of 30 per cent of each is a good way to start the process.
If however you have a metabolic disorder such as diabetes or PCOS, changing this ratio can have a positive effect faster on your overall health. If you are looking to reverse these conditions, you will need to go higher on your good fat intake and should think about consulting a health expert for the same.
