MY HANDS SWEAT A LOT

-

Q

My hands sweat most of the time even in cold months. Please advise.

A

Sweating in excess of that required for normal thermoregulation is termed hyperhidrosis. This condition may be of unknown cause or secondary to other diseases, metabolic disorders, febrile illnesses, or medication use. Localised oversweating is generally emotionally induced and usually affects the palms, soles, and/or armpits. When stress levels are high, sweat glands oversecrete, leading to the development of palmoplantar hyperhidrosis. Unlike sweating on the remainder of the body, sweating on the palms and soles is controlled by the cerebral cortex and is responsive to emotional stimuli rather than to temperature stimuli. Therefore, palmoplantar hyperhidrosis, unlike generalised hyperhidrosis, does not occur during sleep. Excessive sweating of the palms and soles is also observed in persons with chronic alcoholism.

Finding ways to ease stress is important; reduce sour, salty and spicy food.

Using an alcohol-based hand wipe can temporarily shrink pores and are useful immediately prior to direct social interaction.

Soak your palms for few minutes in a cold concentrated black tea. The tannic acid in the tea has astringent properties that can act as a natural antiperspirant. Cold tea bags can also be held in the palm daily to reduce perspiring palms.

✱Try applying sandalwood paste and or Aloe vera on your palms and soles

Intake of a teaspoon of Amla powder mixed with Ghee or honey is helpful. Soak a tablespoon of coriander seeds in a glass of warm water overnight and drink the water in the morning. Include raisins in your diet.
