Garlic packs several medicinal and antibacter­ial properties. Amera Marian Varghese, clinical dietician, Mediclinic Welcare Hospital, says, ‘It contains antioxidan­ts like allicin that helps fight infections and prevents bacteria-related food poisoning.’ It is effective against high blood pressure, cardiovasc­ular disease, cholestero­l, colds and hair loss. ‘The best way to enjoy garlic’s health benefits is to eat it raw, or close to raw. You can also use garlic as dressings by pressing a few cloves of fresh garlic, and mixing it with extra virgin olive oil and salt. To boost immunity, brew a tea of garlic with a bit of honey or ginger.’
