Michlifen Golf & Country Club
This Jack Nicklausdesign in Morocco is the new centrepiece of a resort offering skiing outside the sevenmonth golf season
This new Jack Nicklaus design is like nothing else on offer in Morocco.
Perched 1,650 metres above sea level, the just-opened Michlifen Golf & Country Club in Ifrane offers an experience unlike anything else on offer to UAE-based amateurs considering a golf escape to Morocco. Who are we to argue with Jack Nicklaus, the designer of the 7,325 yards, par-72 parkland newcomer. “The site… is one of the most scenic, beautiful vistas you will find for a golf experience,” the 18-time major champion said of the course’s panoramic vistas over stands of 100-year-old oak trees and cedar forest to rocky outcrops “that is a reminder of the force of time.” Positioned in the Middle Atlas, a region known for the charm of its Alpine-style architecture, Michlifen’s peak season is April-October, with shoulder seasons in March and October but only if the snow hasn’t arrived and the IMG-managed Michlifen Resort & Golf hasn’t reverted to its ski resort roots. The club’s academy boasts three IMG Performance studios featuring Trackman, SamPutt Lab and the latest clubfitting technology but there is much more on offer than just breath-taking golf.
Not far away, ancient and contemporary culture lives side-by-side in the city of Fez. With its old medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, medieval architecture, bustling souks, charming neighbourhoods and festivals, the city is famous around the world.
