Alshaya’s growing ambitions in the region continue to bear fruit, with the retailer signing a contract with King Abdullah Economic City in Saudi Arabia in December to lease a 91,000 metre squared area, and an expectatio­n to open more than 150 new stores in the kingdom throughout 2017. An announceme­nt to open a Four Seasons hotel in Kuwait, as well as other plans for the year ahead will build on what was an impressive 2016 for the executive chairman, who commands 70 internatio­nal brands including H&M, Victoria’s Secret and Starbucks in the Middle East and beyond, with more than 2,800 stores.
