It was a breakthrough year for EgyptianAmerican actor Rami Malek – star of critically acclaimed TV drama Mr Robot. A Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, and Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series – as well as a plethora of other nominations – cemented Malek’s reputation as a rising star of the small screen. This year could see similar plaudits for roles on the big screen, with a remake of French classic Papillon and a hotly anticipated turn as Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody on the cards.
