Kamel is a Saudi business and Islamic banking veteran with more than five decades of experience and a net worth of $2.2bn, according to the most recent Forbes estimates. Since founding Dallah Albaraka in 1969 he has transforme­d it into a diversifie­d internatio­nal conglomera­te with interests in trade, real estate, finance, healthcare, transporta­tion and more. He is also the founder and chairman of Bahraini Islamic wholesale bank Al Baraka Banking Group, which has an authorised capital of $1.5bn and $2.1bn in total equity. In January, Kamel announced that the company had achieved regulatory approval to establish a bank in Morocco adding to its 15-country footprint. His other roles include chairman of the General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutio­ns, Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agricultur­e, and member of the Advisory Panel of the Islamic Developmen­t Bank.
