Moroccan billionaire Othman Benjelloun is the head of BMCE Bank, the second largest in bank in Africa, and currently the wealthiest man in his home country, as well as the 12th wealthiest on the continent. The 84-year-old is worth $1.97bn thanks to his long banking career, his majority stake in the insurance company RMA Watanya and minority interest in Meditelecom, Morocco's second largest mobile phone operator. He is a member of the World Union of Arab Bankers and created the BMCE Bank Foundation, in 1995, which promotes education in rural areas and environmental protection.
