Sultan Al Qassemi needs no introduction these days. As one the UAE’s most famous faces – and voices – the Sharjah native rose to prominence on Twitter for his commentaries on the Middle East during the Arab Spring. He is particularly infamous for his controversial op-ed published in 2013 when he called for citizenship to be opened to foreigners. He has written extensively for international publications such as
Foreign Policy and The Guardian and has built a Twitter following of more than 480,000. He is also the founder of the Barjeel Art Foundation, which aims to preserve and draw attention to modern and contemporary Arab art.
