One of Morocco’s most powerful and wealthiest businesswomen, Salwa Idrissi Akhannouch was born into a family of entrepreneurs. The founder and CEO of Aksal Group – Morocco’s leading retailer in luxury goods, Akhannouch inherited her wealth from her grandfather, Haj Ahmed Benlafkih, a big name in the tea trade in the 1960s. The Aksal Group owns a 50 per cent stake in the Morocco Mall, one of the largest shopping centres in Africa, and also owns the sole franchise for several luxury brands in Morocco such as Zara, Gucci and Fendi. She is married to businessman and politician Aziz Akhannouch, who is the majority owner of Akwa Group, a multibillion-dollar Moroccan diversified conglomerate.
