As Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 diversification plan took shape throughout 2016, the leader of the world’s biggest crude oil exporter Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma’aden) announced major plans to seek other sources of revenue. Ma’aden CEO Khaled Al Mudaifer said the company intended to double gold production by 2020 and increase output of other commodities including aluminium, ammonia and phosphate. Two expansion projects have recently been completed and a third phosphate project has been announced. Last month, Al Mudaifer was appointed to the board of the Paris-based International Fertilizer Association (IFA).
