One killed, two injured in RAK boat fire
Accumulation of fuel vapour led to explosion in the main cabin
One Asian fisherman was killed and two others were injured aboard a fishing boat yesterday morning after their boat caught fire at Al Jeer Eastern shore of Ras Al Khaimah, police confirmed.
Rescue teams from civil defence and police rushed to the scene after the operation room received a call at around 10am.
Fatally injured
Civil Defence patrols rescued the fishermen except one who was fatally injured in the blaze.
Brigadier General Ganem Ahmad Ganem, director general of central operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said the preliminary investigation showed that an accumulation of fuel vapour led to an explosion in the main cabin, blasting the fishermen overboard.
The injured were rushed to hospital for treatment and the body of the third man was recovered from the sea.
The injured fishermen suffered minor to moderate injuries and were transferred to the hospital in Ras Al Khaimah for treatment.
The body of the victim was moved to the hospital morgue.
Police have ruled out foul play in the incident.
Police transferred the case to the main competent authorities to complete the legal procedures.
